GE SmartWater MWFDS Refrigerator Filter is as simple as it gets in terms of refrigerator water purification. The installation takes a matter of seconds and does not require the use of any tools or manuals.

It is not necessary to turn the water or refrigerator off. Once you remove the old filter, a safety valve prevents water from flowing until the new filter is in place. Nothing is worse than having water all over the floor!

The GE MWFDS SmartWater Refrigerator Filter is an acceptable replacement (as defined by the manufacturer) for GE part numbers GWF, GWFA, GWF01, GWF06, MWFA, and Hotpoint HWF and HWFA.

You can use the filter with the following models, however; an adapter may be required: FXRC, FXRT, MXRC, HXRT, WR97X10006, and Kenmore 46-9905. The filter is NSF and ANSI certified for optimal safety.

The General Electric MWFDS SmartWater Refrigerator Filter is supposed to last six months, however; the actual replacement time is more like three months.

The filter will most likely need to be replaced three times per year, perhaps more. GE claims it costs three cents per gallon of water, whereas bottled water is much more. The filter is adequate for basic purification, but leaves a lot to be desired.

The problem with the General Electric MWFDS SmartWater Refrigerator Filter is that it lacks advanced filtration techniques. For pure water, a four-stage approach to purification is best, which offers a sediment filter, a carbon filter, a reverse osmosis membrane and a deionization cartridge. The water will taste great with the GE filter, however; what you cannot taste are potentially unsafe particles.

As an overall water filter, the GE SmartWater MWFDS Refrigerator Filter is the best solution for the average home.
